Within the framework of TEAM-SIE project under the UK Vietnam Higher Education Partnership (UK-VN HEP), Nha Trang University along with UK Universities of Cardiff, Birmingham and Greenwich organised a workshop and training course on “Business-University Collaborations in Sustainability, Innovation and Entrepreneurship” in the UK from 7th May to 15th May 2019 in Cardiff, Birmingham and London.
The workshop and training course focus on the following subjects:
(1) Innovation & Entrepreneurship (Higher Education, Advanced Technology Transfer, Hi-Tech Start-up);
(2) Sustainable Development (High quality Human Resources, Hi-Tech, Economics);
(3) Higher Education (Learning, Teaching & Assessment, & Transnational Education);
(4) Education – Business or University – Industry (U-I) Partnership (Knowledge Transfer Partnership, Advanced Technology Transfer, Entrepreneurship).
The workshop and training course aim (1) to fruitfully and sustainably strengthen the current UK-VN partnerships in Higher Education, Innovation and Entrepreneurship (www.vuheie.org), and (2) to create the direct impacts and outcomes for the UK-VN HEP programme, via the academic mobility, business-university collaborations and the joint postgraduate programmes in sustainability, innovation and entrepreneurship.
Specifically, the workshop and training course have the following 2 objectives (O). The Objective O1 is to develop and implement the Joint Postgraduate Study Programme in Sustainability, Innovation and Entrepreneurship among the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) from the UK and Vietnam, in close collaborations and partnerships with the regional and international HEIs. This joint study programme will have the internationally professional recognition, accredited by the well-known regional and international Evaluation of Research and Higher Education organisations, such as the UK’s Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Institution of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE), the High Council for Evaluation of Research and Higher Education (HCERES) etc., and step-by-step to develop the Transnational Education (TNE) partnerships that promote the UK qualifications and stimulate the academic and student mobility. The Objective O2 is to develop the fruitful links between the university and business, especially in Vietnam, based on the experiences from HEIs in the UK, via the specific case-studies, research & development (R&D) projects, and the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) programmes.
Vietnam partners with delegates of 5 university lecturers/leaders of Nha Trang University (NTU) and Vietnam – Japan University (VJU) as well as 17 company leaders of Khanh Hoa Young Entrepreneurs Associations (KHYEA) participated in the workshop. About 15 UK professors and senior lecturers from Universities of Cardiff, Birmingham, Greenwich, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Bath, and Royal Holloway University of London (RHUL) are also invited to participate and present their talks on topics of the TEAM-SIE project in the workshop and training course. A working program was quite busy with workshops and training courses on 9th May in Cardiff, 10th in Birmingham and 13th in London. Interestingly, field trips to local companies and industrial zones were also planned, for example, an industrial visit to BMW Plant Hams Hall in Canton Lane, Hams Hall, Coleshill North, Warwickshire on 10th May. The BMW Plant is considered as the lighthouse of Innovation in the UK.
Specially, meetings at Embassy of Vietnam in London were invited and organised by the Ambassador for maximum collaboration effects among Vietnamese and British universities and companies. In summary, a nearly perfect plan has been designed and implemented for interesting presentations, open networking and discussions, delicious meals, pleasant accommodation and convenient travel for Vietnamese and British delegates during the workshop in the UK.
We would like to thank Cardiff University, Birmingham University and University of Greenwich to host successfully the workshop and training course. This activity is part of the TEAM-SIE project funded by the British Council’s UK Vietnam Higher Education Partnership initiative, therefore, economy return airfare, accommodation, meals and travel in the UK have been covered by the project and additional cash matching fund contribution.
